Chris Burkard's Northern Exposures
The Californian camera-slinger who’s made an art of frozen pixels. Starting his career as a self-taught surf photographer on the Central Coast of California, Chris Burkard’s work these days can be found not only in the pages of our favourite surf journals, but in publications ranging from National Geographic Adventure to The New Yorker and ESPN.
Burkard’s love of the outdoors is famed, and not in your usual sunset, campfire, and singalong on the beach type way either. Chris prefers the lands of ice and snow, with a healthy dose of waves thrown in the mix for good measure. He’s forged relationships with many of surfing’s more intrepid souls, and these days his sub-zero surf action is matched by his incredible eye for light, landscape and composition. Enjoy 18 of Chris’ finest frames from a few different northern archipelagos, captioned by the man himself.
