The Living Screen House

With plenty of sand, surf and cool breezes, it is easy to see why Bondi Beach is one of Australia’s most famous summertime hangouts. The North Bondi Home, situated in a prime spot opposite the blue waters of Bondi Beach.

The 1980s home was in need of a fresh, modern makeover that would make the most of the natural light and proximity to the ocean. The owners hired Sydney architectural firm CplusC to transform this residence into a private family retreat that would also be perfect for entertaining.

CplusC updated the home to make it unique in several ways. It was shortlisted for the 2017 House Awards. The 200 square metre home sits on a relatively square floor plan on a narrow lot. CplusC updated the facade with perforated metal panels and a wood frame with square windows. The home is sustainable thanks to the metal panels, which allows the homeowners to grow a vertical garden. This vertical garden helps add energy efficiency to the home as it filters light. It also provides privacy from neighbouring houses.

Probably the most outstanding unique feature though is the glass lap pool, which runs right through the living room. The living room opens up to a rear BBQ area that comes complete with a pizza oven. The area is perfect for entertaining.

The downstairs area houses the kitchen, dining area and outdoor spaces. They are located to make optimal use of solar energy.

Former reality TV star turned designer Jason Sullivan designed the interior of the North Bondi residence. The interior fixtures perfectly complement the exterior of the home. The upstairs bedrooms are situated so that each bedroom maximises the views of the green space outside.
